1802 – The founding of Saint Mary’s College by Reverend Edmond Burke who would later become a Bishop.
1852 – SMC was given permanent degree granting powers.
1853 – Father Patrick Power becomes first Nova Scotian born head of SMC.
1868 – 1913 – Teaching duties entrusted to the Christian Brothers of Saint John the Baptist de le Salle.
1913 – 1940 – The Irish Christian Brothers were the teaching order at SMC.
1940 – The Jesuits arrive at SMC and remain until 1970.
